2016, War on Instagram

2016, War on Instagram

After years of polemics, of not talking to each other, of despising each other, it seems Taylor Swift and Kanye West have had enough calmness, and have started to go at each other’s neck. Both singers have been confronted since 2009 – a war that, far from producing casualties, produces entertainment for the social media. This is a war fought on Snapchat – and on Instagram.

After some days without a word, Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) has posted a long text post in which she explains a part of what happened. Everything started in 2009, when West interrupted Swift while she was receiving an MTV VMA award. Swift had been awarded for the best female video of the year by the MTV, and she went up the stage visibly emotional. “Thank you so much!” she said – and couldn’t say much more. After some seconds’ talk, Kanye West comes at the stage and interrupts her. “I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish – but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” That, of course, made Swift speechless.

The fact that started it all.
The fact that started it all.

Since then, both singers have never talked to each other; West has apologized several times, though. But their relationship never went up after that. Now, seven years later, West releases a song in which he calls Taylor Swift “that bitch,” saying she owes him – and that moment at the VMA awards – her career. “I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship. He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story (…) is character assassination.”

How will all this end? We’ll keep you updated.
